THE association of pregnancy and acute leukaemia is rare. In 1943 McGoldrick and Lapp collected 34 such cases which had been recorded in the world literature. Yahia, Hyman and Phillips (1958) found reports of an additional 32'cases between 1943 and 1956. In most instances an acute onset of the leukaemia was observed during the course of an established pregnancy. Premature labour was common; the foetal mortality in the earlier reported group was 60%, whilst in the latter group it was below 40%. None of the babies developed leukaemia so far as is known. Although all mothers died during the pregnancy or within a few months post partum, survival time should improve in future with modern treatment.
