Summary:1 A series of 44 patients with primary vaginal carcinoma has been reviewed and a comparison has been made with other published series. 2 Reasons are given for the need to adopt a more optimistic view of prognosis at the present time. 3 Different treatment modalities are discussed. Radical radiotherapeutic methods are considered to be the treatment of choice in most cases. 4 The need for cytological follow‐up in genital tract carcinoma is emphasized.
