Summary The case‐records of 12 patients admitted to a metropolitan hospital with complications resulting from the insertion of the Grafenberg ring are reviewed. Except in occasional cases the use of the Gräfenberg ring is inadvisable. It is recommended that smears should be taken at regular intervals from the cervix if Gräfenberg rings are in situ and that a ring biopsy should be taken from the cervix when the ring is permanently removed. Mention is made of certain rules which should be adhered to if Gräfenberg rings are to be employed.
