Summary: Forty patients with obstructed labour seen the General Hospital, Port Moresby, are described. The commonest cause of this complication was cephalopelvic disproportion at the pelvic brim. Other common causes were transverse lie and occipito‐posterior positions and transverse arrest of the head. There was no maternal mortality and the possible reasons for this are discussed.
