This paper describes the synthesis of a reactive dye containing a thioether‐ethylsulphone group. The dye was prepared by reaction of a specially synthesised vinylsulphone dye with β‐thiolethyltrimethylammonium chloride. The latter was synthesised by the reaction of choline dichloride with sodium thiosulphate; the Bunte salt thus formed was hydrolysed with aqueous hydrochloric acid to give the required thiol derivative. This reacted readily with a model vinylsulphone dye to give the desired compound.
