The oil crisis in the 1970s struck the supplies and users of dyes and chemicals with the impact of a tsunami. Rationalisation and diversification transformed the producer industry worldwide. Increasing concern regarding the environmental effects of chemical pollution greatly modified and limited the scope for developing and marketing novel dyes and effect chemicals.
