An acidic preparation procedure for cotton was assessed by comparing the performance of fabrics prepared by this method to identical fabrics prepared by caustic scouring and peroxide bleaching. The fabrics were assessed in terms of levelness of dyes, penetration of dyes and the physical properties of the fabric. The performance of all three fabrics were similar. However, the acidic preparation process is shown to be more acceptable from both an economic and an environmental perspective.
