Various separation methods for cuticle isolation from whole wool have been studied. A method involving agitation of wool fibres in formic acid proved to be successful, producing a high yield of cuticle cells relatively free from contaminating cortical cells. The cuticle cells so isolated were characterised by amino acid analysis and scanning electron microscopy.
