The complexing of the azomethine dye 2‐(2‐pyridylmethyleneamino)phenol (PMAP) with the divalent manganese ion in solution has been investigated. The synthesis of an Mn(II)—PMAP complex is described, together with its characterisation by infra‐red and mass spectrometry. The properties of the Mn(II)—PMAP complex for dyeing wool and nylon 6.6 fabrics have been investigated.
