Capillary electrophoresis has been used for the separation and analysis of a number of dyes and some related intermediates. Unprecedented high‐resolution separations were achieved using this new technique. Methods are described for the analysis of some basic, reactive and acid dyes, and the potential for separating disperse dyes and pigments is discussed. A method for the analysis of inorganic anions is also demonstrated. Other benefits of this novel technique include extremely low running costs, simple operation and method development, and excellent reproducibility. Capillary electrophoresis is a useful technique for the dye‐manufacturing and dye‐using industries.
