Sporadic reports have occurred of dyehouse operatives suffering from symptoms suggesting an allergy to reactive dyes. A study was undertaken in 1985 of 414 dyeworkers in Leicester and Manchester. After detailed clinical assessment, 21 workers were identified as having allergic symptoms, including occupational asthma due to one or more reactive dyes and 19 had irritant reactions to a variety of chemicals.
