This paper deals with the influence of N‐alkylbetaines and alkylamidobetaines on the levelling of acid dyes on wool. The effects of chemical composition of the betaines and their concentration in the dyebath on levelling have been studied. The relationship between levelling behaviour and variation in dye absorption has also been examined.
