A novel method is presented for detecting and measuring microbial growth on wool textile substrates and for determining the efficacy of biocides in textile applications, based on the bioluminescent light emission and photographic detection of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) released from mildew‐causing microbes. The method will facilitate the evaluation of biocide performance, providing preliminary results within a matter of hours.
