The purpose of this paper is to explain, as simply as possible, the mode of action of surface–active agents in improving the solubility of disperse dyes in dispersions. It does not describe their stabilising effect on, for example, crystal growth, morphology or aggregation of dye particles, although some reference is made to this topic.
