Some disperse dyes based on 3‐amino‐5‐nitro(2, 1) enz‐isothiazole have been synthesised by coupling with derivatives of N‐phenyl‐β‐alanine or N‐(2‐cyano‐ethyljaniline. Spectral properties in the infra‐red and visible range of the dyes obtained were investigated. The visible spectra suggest the possibility of aggregation when the secondary amines were used as a coupling component. This probably has some influence on the intensity of the dyeings obtained. The dyes were found to have good fastness to light and dry‐heat treatment and very interesting colouristic properties.
