A parallel‐transport mechanism, comprising surface and pore diffusions with multimodal Langmuir adsorption, has been formulated for the diffusion of acid dye into nylon. The concentration dependence of the diffusion coefficient of the dye in the substrate derived from the proposed model was compared with existing experimental data. The observed concentration dependence of the intrafibre diffusion coefficient under a wide range of fixation values is explained in terms of parallel diffusion accompanied by bimodal Langmuir adsorption with certain sites being more physically active than others.
