Isidore Levy served in the Royal Navy during the 1939‐45 war, after which he obtained a first class honours degree in chemistry and then a PhD. He joined ICI as a research and plant chemist, later moving to Marks & Spencer as a technical and scientific adviser and finally to the Littlewoods Organisation as an executive director. He is responsible for standards and quality of all merchandise sold through its mail order and chain store outlets and for fabric purchasing. Dr Levy is currently chairman of the Clothing Standards Committee and a member of the Textile Divisional Council and the Consumer Standards Advisory Committee of BSI.
