The contribution of superoxide ion to the photofading of dyes has been investigated. The involvement of superoxide ion with singlet oxygen is important in the photofading of Methylene Blue and Rose Bengale, but with indigo and aminoanthraquinone dyes singlet oxygen without superoxide ion is predominant.
