The importance of plasticization in dyeing processes is explained in relation to rapid dyeing and fibre swelling. The use of solubility parameters for understanding dyeing processes is revived and extended to give a fresh insight into dyeing mechanisms and a changed view of the importance of fibre swelling in dyeing.
