This paper is restricted to the control of process variables in batch dyeing. Most of the work carried out in this field, is concerned with complex, sophisticated pressure dyeing machines for colouring packages, fabric beams or fabric rope. Before considering this equipment, it is desirable to examine the types of instruments used in many non‐automatic dyehouses and the variables that are normally controlled by some form of instrumentation.
