It has not been my intention to give an in‐depth study of wallcoverings, but more an appreciation of its development from its early beginnings to the present day. The term “wallcovering” in this article is used to describe all forms of flexible web supplied in roll form for hanging onto walls or ceilings by means of an adhesive.
