A laboratory apparatus has been constructed to study the behaviour of disperse dyes in vacuum transfer printing. Equations have been derived whereby the results of dye transfer experiments can be expressed in the form of curves relating the degree of vacuum to transfer efficiency and time of transfer. Problems associated with the choice of suitable dyes for the transfer printing of different fabrics are discussed. The Stork TC 451 vacuum calender is described and illustrated diagrammatically.
