The e.s.r. spectra obtained by 310 nm irradiation of a range of dyes of different chemical structures in nylon film was found to be due entirely to the dye. From an examination of the temperature dependences of these e.s.r. responses it has been deduced that in both the presence and absence of oxygen they are due to the formation of charge transfer conduction bands.
