Colouring matters based on the 1‐aminoanthraquinone chromogen and containing organosilicon functional substituent groups have been prepared. Their physico‐chemical properties and their possible applications, particularly to glass fibres, have been examined. The dyes were obtained generally by reacting 1‐chloro‐ or l‐amino‐4‐methoxyanthraquinone with γ‐aminopropylalkylalkoxysilanes in an inert solvent. Chromatography was used for purification. The products were amorphous, glass‐like solids and, by elemental analysis, Zeisel tests and absorption spectrophotometry, were shown to be cyclic polysiloxanes of moderate heat stability. They are suitable for colouring glass fibres. Although their wet fastness on glass is moderate to good, their fastness to light is very low.
