The importance of particle size, shape and crystal form of pigments and disperse dyes is discussed. Methods for controlling the particle properties of insoluble azo colorants are outlined. A detailed account of the use of surface‐active agents and the effects of coprecipitation of related azo compounds in controlling the particle properties of C.I. Disperse Yellow 3 is given.
