The types of training available to textile technologists and scientists in different countries in Europe are discussed. Consideration is given to problems such as student failure and parity of esteem between academic science and technology. Research and industrial training are described, as are the hours of lectures and laboratory tuition. Brief mention of the staffing system is made and the overall differences of the Eastern and WesternEuropean approaches are briefly described.
