Correlation between Structure, Fastness Properties, and R m Values in Water‐soluble Azo Dyes

Three acid dyes and six direct dyes have been purified and chromatographed. It is shown that a correlation exists between the R m value and the nature and position of substituent groups in the dye molecule. The fastness to wet treatments of direct dyes on cellulose appears to be directly proportional to the R m value.
