A description is given of a convenient and reliable analytical method for the determination of the dichromate value of sewage and trade effluents. The method is more rapid than existing macro‐scale procedures and is sufficiently analytically accurate and reproducible for the calculation of trade‐waste treatment charges. Oxidation with potassium dichromate is carried out in boiling 50% (vol./vol.) sulphuric acid, with a total reagent volume of 30 ml.
