The structure, properties, and uses of secondary cellulose acetate are described. The development of disperse dyes is discussed in relation to the general dyeing properties of the fibre and the fastness properties of dyed cellulose acetate are outlined. Methods for dyeing the fibre are surveyed with particular reference to disperse dyes, but the less important Logwood and Aniline Black are also included, as well as water–soluble, azoic, and vat dyes.
