A model is proposed which makes possible the mathematical treatment of the movement of solute resulting from the evaporation of solvent from the surface of a capillary network. It is considered useful in predicting the migration of solute in the capillaries of a textile material during the constant–rate period of convective drying. Within the limits of certain simplifying assumptions, the concentration depth profiles are defined as a function of time by the solution to the equation of Fick's second law of diffusion satisfying defined boundary conditions.
