The development of the market for nylon textiles is reviewed with regard to the expanding range of end–uses. The technical improvements in processing and in dyeing and finishing that have enabled this expansion to take place are outlined and the accompanying establishment of improved performance standards is discussed. An account is given of the bleaching and general dyeing properties of nylon 6 fibre, including the principles of the dyeing of mixtures with other fibres. Examples are given of various methods of coloration of yarn, fabric, and garments to obtain dyeings of adequate fastness for specific end–uses.
