Reference is made to the relation between the results obtained in standard methods of testing colour fastness and the effects of normal use by the consumer, particularly in regard to the testing of fastness to washing, light, sea–water and chlorinated water, and rubbing. The importance of care labelling of textile articles is stressed and the advisability of adopting graded standards of performance is discussed.
