Various methods for analysing the results obtained in studies of the alkaline hydrolysis of chloro– N –heterocyclic reactive dyes containing ionisable amino groups have been compared and a treatment has been derived whereby the second–order rate constants for hydrolysis of the ionised and un–ionised forms of the dye and the basic dissociation constant of the ionisable amino group can be most easily obtained. This procedure has been applied to some previously published results ( I ).
