A scheme for the identification of dyes on secondary cellulose acetate is presented. The scheme is in two parts— first, identification of the application class of the dye and, secondly, identification of the chemical class of the dye within each application class. Since disperse dyes are the most widely used class of dye on secondary cellulose acetate, most attention has been devoted to the scheme for their identification.
