A scheme has been devised for calculating recipes for colours approximately equidistant perceptually from each other. The number of recipes held must give colours sufficiently close together to satisfy customer demands. Check dyeings are being made initially of all colours in the wider‐spaced grid chosen for physical standards, but future work will require a much smaller number of check dyeings. The advantage of such a scheme is that a speedier service to the customer can be provided, since each wet‐processing unit of an organisation has recipes available in advance of the customer's need from the library of recipes provided.
