A method for calculating the contributions of various spectral regions of light in causing fading is described, and results are given for three dyed samples. The materials were exposed to sunlight plus skylight, for which the spectral energy distribution is rather well known, behind a set of coloured filters. Fading was measured as an actual colour change by means of the Hunter colour‐difference meter. A set of simultaneous equations is set up whose solution gives the relative efficiencies of the various regions in producing fading. A comparison of various equations to describe fading is also made.
