Development on the mechanical aide of slubbing dyeing occurred mainly between 1880 and 1920, and progress during the last twenty years has been relatively slow. Slubbing dyeing is still essentially a batch operation, although a continuous process would be attractive. Although many of the dyes used for slubbing date from the nineteenth century, dyes of improved brightness and fastness are being introduced.
