A Practical Survey of Hosiery Dyeing

The survey is intended to indicate how advances in hosiery‐dyeing techniques have been made possible by technical developments in dyes and auxiliaries. In tracing these developments from the use of natural dyes in the later nineteenth century to representative modern practice, the practical application of scientific method and control is discussed with the more important theoretical advances in mind. Following a discussion of special considerations in the dyeing of knitted footwear and fabrics by different methods, recently developed features of hosiery‐dyeing machinery are outlined.
