Studies have been made of the relation between the degree of orientation of dyed regenerated cellulose fibres and the degree of polarisation of their fluorescence under various conditions. It is shown that, with certain precautions, the fluorescence method gives a measure of the dichroism of the dyed fibres and is a simple and accurate method of evaluating dichroism.
