It is claimed that, contrary to general belief, the principles of continuous dyeing can be applied successfully to wool in all stages of manufacture. A continuous method of dyeing wool on a laboratory scale is described, according to which wool impregnated with dye is treated in a boiling solution of dilute acid and dyed level in 2–10 min. with acid dyes and in 4–20 min. with chrome dyes or ester salts of leuco vat dyes. Some of the requirements of suitable machinery for dyeing long runs by this method are briefly mentioned.
