CARTOGRAPHIC POSSIBILITIES OF THE SPOT AND SPACELAB PROJECTS

A comparison is made between the specifications for the SPOT and Spacelab projects and forecasts are given concerning the mapping capabilities of the products of both of these projects. Research into certain aspects of SPOT and Spacelab is being undertaken at the Institut Géographique National, Paris. Suggestions are given for several improvements which might increase the efficiency and heighting accuracy of similar projects and considerable future expansion of mapping from space is predicted.Résumé On compare les spécifications des projets SPOT et Spacelab et leurs éventuelles applications à la cartographie. Des recherches à ce sujet sont actuellement en cours à l'IGN, Paris. On fait quelques propositions qui pourraient amélorer l'exactitude altimérique des restitutions d'images. On prédit un avenir considérable à la cartographie satellitaire. Zusammenfassung Vergleich der Anforderungen für die Weltraumprojekte SPOT und Spacelab sowie Vorhersage der Leistungsfähigkeit beider in bezug auf die Kartenherstellung. Bestimmte Aspekte beider Projekte werden am IGN in Paris erforscht. Es werden einige Vorschläge zur Erhöhung der Leistungsfähigkeit und zur Verbesserung der Höhenauswertegenauigkeit für künftig ähnliche Projekte gemacht. Für die Zukunft wird eine Zunahme der Kartenherstellung aus dem Weltraum vorhergesagt.
