The extent of lack of flatness of the film in air survey cameras was examined by the use of interferometry. Following an assessment of the merits of vacuum back and register glass flattening devices, a roller flattener was developed for use in conjunction with a register glass and with discrete vacuum application. Encouraging results have been obtained in the early stages of its use.
