Considerable fluctuationd in size have characterised the pig industry in Northern Ireland during the past decade. What are the causes of these fluctuations? Can they be reduced? Or, can they be anticipated and planned for ? These questions form the point of departure for this analysis. The answers are sought by hypothesising and testing an econometric model of the supply side of the pig industry. The estimated model is then used in the analsis of some of the problems of the industry.
