The present research investigates the intergenerational living arrangements. interactions, and economic assistance of Japanese Americans. Compared to other groups in America, both first and second generation Japanese‐Americans have a stronger desire to be geographically and emotionally close to each other. The preservation of this pattern is made possible by the aged parents’belief in the importance of instrumental self‐sufficiency.
