Summary This paper assesses the extent to which the Oxford colleges—like the Church Commissioners—have transferred capital out of landed property as part of a broader project of asset re‐structuring. It argues that explanation lies in changes to the rules of accumulation, which were the outcome of a series of political and ideological conflicts between the colleges and the central state.
