The kiln‐firing experiment described here * (and introduced by Mr. B. R. Hartley in the preceding note) was carried out by members of the Boston Archaeological Extra‐Mural Group of Nottingham University. The specialist scientific measurements detailed in the appendices were carried out by Dr. J. P. Roberts, Dr. D. White, and Dr. A. White of Leeds University and by the Oxford Archaeological Research Laboratory.
