A one‐day conference was held by the Department of Optometry and Visual Sciences as part of a wide range of general celebrations and activities organized by The City University in recognition of the Institution being 100 years old, Northampton Polytechnic Institution having been founded in 1894. All the speakers were former undergraduate or postgraduate students of the Department. The audience, which comprised all sectors of the optometric profession and alumni spanning several decades, enjoyed presentations which were diverse, interesting and often supplemented with humorous anecdotes of previous life at The City. The day's proceedings are presented here as a series of Abstracts.
