— Although the spatial frequency dependence of accommodation is well established, characteristics of the accommodative response profile may vary significantly, thus supporting opposing theories of accommodation control. We demonstrate the pronounced influence of instruction and higher level control on such accommodation profiles. The results suggest that extreme care be taken in the methodological considerations of such experiments, as well as the need for additional systematic investigation of these factors in accommodation studies.
