A laser Doppler system is described using photon correlation signal analysis with a microcomputer control, which can be used to measure velocities in sound waves. The free field infront of a loudspeaker has been measured to show both spatial and temporal variations. Comparisons with velocities predicted from loud level recordings show close agreement.
