The topic of the meeting held on the afternoon of 23 April at Strathclyde University was ‘Residual Stress Measurement’. There was an attendance of 36. Roger Moore of Stress Engineering Services Ltd., outlined the basis of the hole drilling method and then, aided and abetted by Bill Carrier, he demonstrated its application with the RS200 milling guide operating on the flange of a rolled steel joist. Discussion of the technique was lively and mainly concerned application in stress gradient regions.
